It’s been an honour and a privilege to help out with the legendary Saskatchewan Roughriders football team. This year they are beginning their inaugural season in their brand new stadium.
With a new stadium comes new toys, including a monstrous giant screen. Along with a live video feed, this screen is divided into sections for sponsorship, stats, and social media. The main scoreboard is also displayed on this screen. A smaller screen at the other end of the stadium is a trimmed down version, only showing live video, sponsorship, and score. There are also 2 LED ribbons, 2 sideline screens, and an end zone screen. Live video and score is also piped to roughly 500 screens throughout the stadium concourse and entertainment areas.
Working closely with Ross Video, our team was able to create an incredible gameday graphics package, and get all the screens working as they should.
For my part, I was tasked with some of the more complicated technical elements of the package. Again, working together with Ross, I was able to build a template that would sync sponsorship material across all screens, built custom stats pages that pull live data directly from CFL, and create a social media display that pulls status updates and photos from a moderated list. I also created a pretty cool scoreboard system that connects directly to the OES controller. There are four different versions of the score graphic for the different screens, but they all sync perfectly, and have slick little animations built in.
Lastly, to control the whole thing, I created a custom Dashboard panel to simplify setup, and speed up workflow.
all of this adds up to one of the best stadium experiences in the CFL, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
